Compo rules

Generic compo rules for every platform

Graphic compos

Handdrawn graphics
Entries should use traditional handdrawn techniques, such as pixelling or freehand painting.
  • Maximum resolution: 800x600. You may attach larger versions of the entry in the archive.
  • Allowed formats: PNG, BMP, GIF, TGA, JPG, TIF (Lossless is preferred.)
  • The archive should include at least 3 phases or creation steps of the process.
  • No animations are allowed.
  • Only one picture per artist is allowed.
  • If the graphic doesn't look handdrawn, it will be moved to the freestyle competition.
  • Viewing application: XNView
Freestyle graphics
Entries are allowed to be created by any tool or creation method available, such as photo retouching or 3D rendering.
  • Maximum resolution: 800x600. You may attach larger versions of the entry in the archive.
  • Allowed formats: PNG, BMP, GIF, TGA, JPG, TIF (Lossless is preferred.)
  • The archive should include at least 3 phases or creation steps of the process.
  • No animations are allowed.
  • Only one picture per artist is allowed.
  • Viewing application: XNView
Retro graphics
Entries which were created on 8-bit platforms. (see below)
  • Maximum size: 1 disk sides
  • The entry has to be an executable program.
  • The archive should include at least 3 phases or creation steps of the process.
  • No animations are allowed. This also excludes scrolling or multi-screen pictures.
  • Only one picture per artist is allowed.

Music compos

Tracked music
Entries which were created with traditional tracker programs.
  • Playing time: 4 minutes. We'll fade out afterwards.
  • Maximum size: 2 megabytes zipped
  • Allowed formats: XM, IT, S3M, MOD
  • Only one song per artist is allowed.
  • Replaying application: XMPlay
Streaming music
Entries which were created with modern studio techniques.
  • Playing time: 4 minutes. We'll fade out afterwards.
  • Maximum size: 10 megabytes zipped
  • Allowed formats: MP3 and OGG. Also, please fill the ID3/OGGInfo fields if possible.
  • Only one song per artist is allowed.
  • Replaying application: Winamp
Retro music
Entries which were created on 8-bit platforms. (see below)
  • Maximum size: 1 disk sides
  • The entry has to be an executable program.
  • Please note us whether you'd like your song to be played on old or new SID.
  • Only one song per artist is allowed.

Demo compos

Retro demo
8-bit powa.
  • Maximum size: 2 disk sides
  • Playing time: 10 minutes. We'll stop it afterwards or when it loops. If we need to press Space somewhere, tell us beforehand.
  • C64 contributions have to run on unexpanded C64 + 1541, but are accepted on any media (5,25"/3,5" floppy, hdd, microdrive, cd, dvd, cf, ...) with filesystems supported by the latest IDE-DOS version.
Wild/animation demo
Entries which don't fit into any other category. Short films, rendered animations, Flash movies, machinima, alternative platform demos.
  • Playing time: 5 minutes. We'll stop it afterwards.
  • If your entry is a video file, please use MPEG, DivX or XviD formats with MP3 or uncompressed audio.
  • If your entry is NOT a video file, consult the organizers before the deadline.
  • Only one entry per artist is allowed.
256 byte intro
256 bytes of coder mayhem, get the most out of a quarter kilobyte.
  • Playing time: 5 minutes. We'll stop it afterwards or when we notice it loops.
  • If possible, quit on a keypress, preferably ESC.
  • The entry must be one single file, not larger than 256 bytes.
  • The entry must not write on the hard drive.
  • Entries will be run from Windows.
4 kilobyte intro
4 kilobytes of visuals and sound packed together to create the ultimate coding challenge.
  • Playing time: 5 minutes. We'll stop it afterwards.
  • Entries must quit on a ESC (or LMB on Amiga).
  • The entry must be one single file, not larger than 4096 bytes.
  • The entry must not write on the hard drive permanently; CAB-dropping is allowed, but we'd recommend the use of Crinkler. If you DO use CAB dropping, we'd recommend you to avoid compatibility issues, like ordinal importing.
  • You can include a safe mode EXE in the archive, but if the compressed version of the intro doesn't run, we won't show the oversized version.
  • The use of D3DX_*.dll-s is allowed. We'll try to have all the versions possible installed, but make sure you also have a copy you need.
64 kilobyte intro
64 kilobytes providing endless possibilities to show off in music, code and graphics.
  • Playing time: 10 minutes. We'll stop it afterwards.
  • Entries must quit on a ESC (or LMB on Amiga).
  • The entry must be one single file, not larger than 65536 bytes.
  • The entry must not write on the hard drive permanently.
  • The use of D3DX_*.dll-s is allowed. We'll try to have all the versions possible installed, but make sure you also have a copy you need.
Demo
Have all the space you want for creating the masterpiece of the demoscene.
  • Playing time: 10 minutes. We'll stop it afterwards.
  • Entries must quit on a ESC (or LMB on Amiga).
  • Maximum size: 20 megabytes archived
  • The entry must not write on the hard drive permanently.
  • The use of D3DX_*.dll-s is allowed. We'll try to have all the versions possible installed, but make sure you also have a copy you need.
